Great app overall, but it doesnt seem to like to lose. It has a tendency to freeze about three moves before checkmate.

This is dumb u cant win at all
You guys are weak!! I just played my first game and won. A tip: the computer loves taking your pieces so use that to lure it into checkmate. Worked for me. Seriously you guys are pathetic if you cant win after a few games. And dont write a bad review because you cant win. This game is designed to make you better, not let you win.
App was awesome! Especially when it worked. Now it becomes unresponsive after 5 seconds of inactivity. Makes games pretty hard to play. Hopefully a new update fixes it.
I love this app but whenever someone accepts my seek on fics, the fics console goes black and then it disconnects.
It was really confusing Id still rather play people, its also a little confusing.
I love this app. You can adjust the clock as you wish and seek live players with those settings, and you see your rating evolve. Against the computer it has five levels and at the first level i am able to win.
App works well aside from adds covering pieces that have been removed from the board and the issue of crashing whenever an attempt is made to promote a pawn.
Lots of bugs in this application. Computer does not like to lose so it will flash "draw" when you are about to win. Move my pawn 2 spaces and the computer still took me when he wasnt in a position to. The computer makes the same 8 moves every time at the beginning of each game. Very frustrating. But hey it was free.
Avoid. Crashes randomly on various moves. Pretty shoddy app, even a free version should at least work.
For the most part its ok. But it doesnt like to lose high pieces early. I had a chance to take a knight or a bishop without consequence ( or so I thought) until it moved a pawn laterally to take my pawn I was positioning. It cheats when it loses early on!
Too many crashes. Very slow graphics.
It is very easy :)
And this is not the chess I remembered I liked soo much. CPU makes moves Ive never even heard of. Very disappointing. And the hints ONLY work for the CPUs advantage. Placed difficulty on level 1 and CPU still won an all hint game. PS: drhowell, this game isnt worth any money you idiot!
Dont even try it. Dead on delivery
confussing to move players.
Its a ok game. It is hard to move the pieces. An the graphics are HORRIBLE. DONT upgrade it
I usually read through reviews before downloading an app, but found a majority of the reviews here to be unhelpful since theyre mostly one-line complaints without any depth. So here is a helpful one: 1. Bad graphics? The simple graphics of this app make it very easy on the eyes, but there is only so much you can do with a chess app. Also, it seems that most people dont realize you can change the board and pieces to suit your style, and each board plays smoothly. 2. Bad AI? Games with AI-only opponents are not fun IMO, so I dont know why people are downrating this app--an app with the best Internet play--for having poor computer matches. Thats like saying a car transports people badly because it doesnt come in red. However, I decided to test the complaints, so I played a full match using only hints and won. To say that the computer only gives hints that cause loses is stupid. The AI suggests moves based on end game benefits, so if you use a hint, and then make a move that does not complement the hint, then you of course the game will seem slanted. And as for the computer opponents, I found the levels decent enough. I read the review claiming that level 1 was too hard, so I tried playing against the level 1 computer and won almost too easily using the most basic of strategies. 3. Pieces are difficult to move? The pieces are NOT hard to move. You tap the square once, then tap the square you want that piece moved to. The app even shows you what spaces you can move to. Its not rocket science, and all of the other chess apps Ive tried work in the same fashion. If youre having problems tapping the pieces, then recalibrate you iPod or CHOOSE A DIFFERENT BOARD. There are six choices! Six! Overall - Once you learn to use the console (which includes help guides and an online community), the 99 cents to remove the ads is completely worth it. This app is probably the closest youll get to something like yahoo chess, but much more streamlined. The only gripes I have are that you cannot choose random color when searching for games, and that the ads block the area that shows what pieces have been captured. The console could also be a little more user friendly, but this was never a problem for me.
Played through a game. Got a pawn to the other side of the board for a queen and the game froze up and booted me. Dont download unless you do not want to win.
Was really BAD
